“To a daughter leaving home” is the most popular poem in our class that students want to teach to high school students. However some students disagree. They say students won’t feel sympathy through this poem because the speaker wrote this poem the aspect of the parent. Nevertheless, there are some reasons that the poem is so popular to students. First, it has a valuable message. Second, it has appropriate languages.

 First of all, all of three bloggers mention that the poem has a valuable message about parents’ love. Jihyun Lee points out that while high school students read the poem they can understand parents well. She says, most high school students don’t have any chance to think about parents’ love toward them. Therefore, the poem could be the chance that they realize the parents’ love(2014.10.09). Seongeun Ryu agrees with this idea. She mentions, “Since the poem shows parents being worried about their children when they try to leave the parents, students would be able to remind their parents’ love for them” (Ryu, 2014.10.07). Furthermore, Bongyul Choi said, “it will give an appropriate message to students that parents always keep (sic) on eye on them even if they try to be independent because they deeply love their children” (Choi, 2013.10.07).

  Secondly, all three bloggers point out that the language used in the poem is appropriate for high school students. According to Ryu, “To a daughter leaving home” does not have many complicated metaphors unlike other poems. Therefore high school students will understand easily compare to other poems(Ryu, 2014.10.07). Choi supports this idea that he says, “The level of his poem is intermediate, so it will also be helpful for them to improve their English proficiency” (Choi, 2013,10,08). Lee figures out why students feel difficult when they study about poems. She mentions, “Not many students study poem during the class because it is not accustomed to read it.” Thus she suggests to study this poem. Because students could learn not only a figure of rhetorical devices but also expression to use of the poem. Therefore it leads them to be accustomed to the genre of poems (Lee, 2014.10.09).

In summary, these three bloggers choose “To a daughter leaving home” to teach to high school students because of its’ valuable message and appropriate language level.
